چکیده

in this work, a new aluminum matrix nanocomposite reinforced with beta-magnesium aluminide nanoparticles was produced by powder metallurgy technique. the prealloyed al-40 wt.% mg intermetallic ingot was milled for 100 hours to synthesize β-al3mg2 nanoparticles with the average size of 25 nm. different amounts of nanoparticles were added to al matrix powder and the mixture was then milled for 10 hours. al/β-al3mg2 nanocomposite samples were prepared by hot pressing of the composite powders in a uniaxial die at 400 °c under the constant pressure of 600 mpa for 2 hours. the results of density measurements revealed that both the density and relative density of nanocomposite samples decrease due to the usage of superlight β-al3mg2 reinforcement. mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were significantly improved with increasing the reinforcement content. increasing the amount of β-al3mg2 nanoparticles continuously improved the hardness and yield strength of composites from 35 bhn and 87 mpa for pure aluminum to approximately 176 bhn and 625 mpa for the sample containing 20 wt.% β-al3mg2 nanoparticles, respectively. however, the addition of more reinforcement particles up to 20 wt.% resulted in a decrease in the ultimate strain of the samples, and hence, 10 wt.% nanoparticles was considered to be the optimum content of the reinforcement component

Axial Compressive Strength of Reinforced Concrete Columns Wrapped with Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP)

This paper presents the results of a study on the axial compressive strength of columnsstrengthened with FRP wrap. The experimental part of the study included testing 6 reinforcedconcrete columns in two series. The first series comprised three similar circular reinforced concretecolumns strengthened with FRP wrap. The second series consisted of three similar square columns, two with sharp corner...

Mechanical Behavior of Hybrid Fiber Reinforced High Strength Concrete with Graded Fibers

Brittleness, which was the inherent weakness in High Strength Concrete (HSC), can be avoided by reinforcing the concrete with discontinuous fibers. Reinforcing HSC with more than one fiber is advantageous in an overall improvement of the mechanical performance of the composite. In this experimental study, Hybrid Fiber Reinforced High Strength Concrete (HyFR-HSC) mixes were formed by blending si...

Genetic Programming Based Formulation to Predict Compressive Strength of High Strength Concrete

This study introduces, two models based on Gene Expression Programming (GEP) to predict compressive strength of high strength concrete (HSC). Composition of HSC was assumed simplified, as a mixture of six components (cement, silica fume, super-plastisizer, water, fine aggregate and coarse aggregate). The 28-day compressive strength value was considered the target of the prediction.  Data on 159...

Compressive Behavior of Fiber-Reinforced Honeycomb Cores

Honeycomb core sandwich panels have found extensive applications particularly in the aerospace and naval industries. In view of the recent interest in alternative, yet strong and lightweight materials, honeycomb cores are manufactured from sisal fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites and the out-ofplane compressive behaviour of these cores is investigated. The cell wall material is mode...

Ductile Compressive Failure of Concrete Reinforced with High Strength Carbon Hybrid Composite

Received: December 28, 2017 Revised: February 23, 2018 Accepted: February 26, 2018 Abstract: Background: For centuries, steel rebar has been the primary reinforcement in concrete despite its major drawbacks, such as its heavy weight, high electrical conductivity, and corrosiveness. Thus, in response to the need for better alternatives, innovative Hybrid Composite (HC) reinforcements have been d...

Impact of High Strength Rebars on Seismic Behavior of Lightly Reinforced Boundary Elements

Considering economical reasons and attempting to reduce carbon foot print of concrete structures, there is increasing tendency toward use of high strength reinforcement in seismically active regions. ACI 318-19, Iranian steel rebars standard INSO 3132 and next edition of Iranian national building allow the use of high strength rebars in elements of ductile force resisting systems. Therefore it ...
